Households and restaurants all over the Eastern United States use our produce. We take our food safety responsibilities very seriously. The third party audit is performed by Global GAP; it is GFSI benchmarked.
Strategies We Use at Turek Farms
- Hand picked produce quickly brought in from fields
- Forced air/Hydrocooling of vegetables to rapidly bring down the temperature
- In-field inspections of produce to ensure only quality product is packed and shipped
- Integrated Pest Management (IPM) with some crop protectant use as needed
- Third party auditing to ensure our food safety program is effective
Sustainability and the Environment
Turek Farms cares about the environment and we are taking many steps to help preserve our natural resources for our children and the generations that follow. We plant cover crops and buffer strips in fields to help prevent soil erosion. We rotate crops so the fields are not stripped of vital nutrients and to help keep disease and pest infestations to a minimum.
Our soil is tested annually to design a prescription treatment for soil amendments so our plants get exactly what they need and nothing that they don't. For years, we have utilized Integrated Pest Management technology so crop protectants are only used as needed. When possible beneficial insects are used in place of chemicals to control pests. And all of our packaging is recyclable.
